Winemaker Dinner – Seghesio Family Vineyards

Welcome to our second monthly Winemaker Dinner at The Black Kat! This month we will be serving a 5 course meal and featured pairings from Seghesio Family Vineyards based in Heladsburg, CA.

Appetizer: Fresh melon wrapped with aged prosciutto di parma

Paired with: 2016 Arneis, Russian River Valley, CA (ABV: 13.3%)

TASTING NOTES: Floral aromas of citrus blossom, fresh fig and guava. Underlying mid-palate richness elevates notes of tart apple, quince and stone fruit. Mouthwatering acidity lingers on the finish.

2nd Course: Fresh oysters on the half shell
Served with a cilantro, lemon, jalapeño sauce.

Paired with: 2016 Vermentino, Russian River Valley, CA (ABV: 13.5%)

TASTING NOTES: Aromas of ripe pear, lime zest and citrus leaves. Flavors of ripe honeydew melon and fresh cut pears. Vermentino’s thick skins contribute a lush texture that balances its crisp acidity.

3rd Course: Duck Confit Tacos
Served with a habanero chili plum sauce.

Paired with: 2014 Barbera, Alexander Valley, CA (ABV: 14.8%)

TASTING NOTES: Nose exhibits freshly opened cherry blossoms in spring, light and delicately lifted by oak-imparted vanilla aromas. Bright acidity highlights the entry and finish with soft tannins in the mid-palate.

Main Course: Fresh New Zealand Lamb Chops
Served with a cucumber, mint reduction on saffron couscous.

Paired with: 2015 Defiant Red, Sonoma County, CA (ABV: 14.9%)

TASTING NOTES: Aromas of youthful blackberry, mocha and spice. On the palate, dense, ripe flavors of black fruits, pepper and savory notes. Soft tannins and long expansive finish.

Dessert: Fresh farmers market fruit tart

Paired with: 2014 Old Vine Zinfandel, Sonoma County, CA (ABV: 14.8%)

TASTING NOTES: Aromas of floral perfumes, red raspberries and roasted nuts. Vibrant entry building in complexity on the mid-palate. Synergistic interplay of tannins and acidity in an elongated finish.
